Turkey won its first medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games with Hakan Reçber and Hatice Kübra İlgün in taekwondo.
Fighting in 68 kilos on the second day of the Olympic Games held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, Hakan passed Brazilian Edival Pontes in the last 16 round and advanced to the quarter finals. The 21-year-old national taekwondo player, who lost to Great Britain's Bradly Sinden in this round, won the right to compete in the repechage after his opponent made it to the final.
Eliminating New Zealander Tom Burns in the repechage, Hakan won the bronze medal by defeating Nedzad Husic from Bosnia and Herzegovina 22-13 in the medal fight.
